IT System Administrator EU (Ref.2423)

The IT System Administrator EU is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure of the European sites. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure.


  • This role is the key SME / expert for the server environment of the EU Business Unit and is the primary contact for the second level (and higher) IT Infrastructure support;
  • Prepared to provide first level end-user support when necessary;
  • Manage network servers and technology tools;
    • Manage all on premise servers running on VMWare and Wintel systems;
    • Manage the MS Office 365 environment, Azure and Intune;
    • Provide patch and backup management;
    • Analyze system logs and identify potential issues with systems;
    • Install and configure new hardware and software;
    • Develop, deploy and maintain several system administration scripts;
    • Assure security hardening based on security settings and group policies;
    • Install and document remote application provisioning services;
  • Monitor performance and maintain systems according to requirements;
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures. Contribute to and maintain system standards;
  • Research and recommend innovative, and whenever possible, automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage resources and provide economies of scale;
  • Provide Level 2 and other support per request from the Service Desk or in case of Investigate and troubleshoot issues;
  • Maintain problem tracking and technical knowledge base to speed resolution of future service requests;
  • Administer the backup and DR plan and be responsible for the daily follow up on the backup system;
  • Establish and implement ‘best-practice’ standards as well as departmental policies and procedures;
  • Operate within the defined standards of technical infrastructure, policies and practices across the organisation and be consistent with UDG Healthcare Plc Future Fit requirement;
  • Implements and complies with the XPReS4IT PMO practices in the execution of all server related



  • A Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in business informatics or computer science;
  • More than 10 years of experience as a System Administrator in following specific areas:
    • Windows Scripting, such as VBS, PowerShell, Batch, bash and phyton;
    • Backup and recovery solutions using tools such as Windows NT Backup, Arcserve Backup, Symantec, LEGATO, NetBackup, Veeam, VMware Site Recovery Manager;
    • Server operating systems such as Windows 2012 and later, but also older operating systems;
    • Back Installations, Configuration and execution using tools such as NetBackup, Veeam and VMware Site Recovery Manager;
    • Using Operating Systems such as Microsoft Windows 7, Windows 10 and Windows server 2008R2 and 2012R2 in operational environments;
    • Networking protocols such as TCP/IP, SMTP, POP3, SNMP, HTTP and networking hardware;
    • Monitoring tools in different IT environments such as SCOM 2007, 2012, Nagios, Zabbix and WhatsUp;
    • Trend Antivirus solution or similar product with and/or without EPO;
    • Virtualization using tools such as VMware and Hyper-V;
    • Tools such as VMware vSphere 5 and 6 with vCloud Director with IaaS and VMware vCloud Automation Center;
    • Installation, configuration, automation, management and deployment of the tool such as VMware vSphere suite;
  • Certifications in Microsoft/VMware technologies (VMware Certified Professional on vSphere 5 or Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate/ Microsoft Certified System Engineer);
  • Extended experience with general server administration in relation to Windows Server, including installing, updating and configuring software packages, OS patches and updates;
  • Advanced experienced with Microsoft Active Directory, DNS/DHCP, security and policy design and technology support;
  • Experience with administration of email systems administration, like Lotus Domino and MS Exchange / 365;
  • Extended end-to-end troubleshooting skills;
  • Thorough knowledge of infrastructure components and data centers;
  • Up-to-date with new technologies and market trends;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to follow an incident or problem through to resolution;
  • Knowledge of ITIL concepts for Service Desk and incident / problem management;
  • Ideal candidate would be aware of and have experience in a regulated environment;
  • Excellent understanding of IT security principles and risk management;
  • Experience in change and project
  • Effective communicator who uses appropriate language at all levels -both spoken and written- in Dutch and English;
